The Chronicler’s Guide to Reptuuls
In the year five thousand twenty-seven AD, the Reptuuls ruled the Kuro-Sil, and humanity were their slaves.
Now how did this happen, you may ask? How could humans allow this? After all, that was long after humanity had achieved interstellar travel, cured most diseases, and discovered that alien lifeforms exist, learning they were no longer alone in the universe. With all these accomplishments, you would think that humans would be strong enough to stand up to anything.
And yet, at the height of humanity’s power, they fell to the Reptuuls. No one thought it could happen. The Reptuuls, a race of massive, humanoid reptiles, were considered more barbaric and primitive than most other species, as they were well known for their violent and destructive behaviors. No one thought they could overthrow humans so easily with their seemingly weaker technology.
There are many mysteries behind humanity’s fall. Very few know what really happened. A lot of information was either lost to time, or rewritten by powerful individuals to hide the truth. And then there was a war, a most dreadful war that made the truth nearly vanish from existence, and nearly destroyed the very fabric of reality. It was a war humans called the War of the Cosmos, or the Cataclysm That Shook The Heavens.
Dark days, that war was. The mere mention of it still makes me shudder. So much has changed since it ended, and yet, most people still don’t know why it happened, mainly because of the effective propaganda they’ve been fed their whole lives. It amazes me how easy it is to deceive the minds of billions. But despite the unknown nature of the war, these facts remain clear: Reptuuls contain a hidden power stronger than anything known to man, and for one hundred years, they unleashed this power, and waged a most terrible war against mankind to conquer the universe. With the Reptuuls in charge, history of the war was rewritten, and the truth became lost to time.
But not for me. I have traveled far and wide, discovered forbidden bits of information, and pieced them all together to form the true story. Telling this may end in my death. There are many who will stop at nothing to prevent me from telling it, and that is a risk I am willing to take. The whole story must be told if we are ever to recover from that horrible war.
Oh, excuse me! You are probably wondering who I am. I probably should have started with that first. I tend to forget that part whenever I talk about this particular topic. So let’s start over and introduce myself properly before I forget again.
Call me the Chronicler; don’t worry about my real name. It’s best if I leave that a secret. I am just a humble writer from a time far removed from your own, seeking to shed light on the many lifeforms of the Kuro-Sil – That is what we call the universe we live in. It means ‘Lost Universe’ in the Reptuulian language – Humans have always been afraid of non-human life, with many believing aliens to be monsters or demons that will one day come for them and kill them all.
Well, I say pchuk to all that! Non-humans are no worse than the rest of us. They have just as much worth and dignity as humans do, so I will not tolerate such prejudiced thoughts here! Those thoughts are what eventually led to the War of the Cosmos to begin with, so I don’t want to hear any misconceived nonsense about non-humans from you!
Oh shoot, I’ve done it again. I inserted my personal biases and frustrations into my work. I promised myself I would stay neutral as I told my story, and I failed once again.
Forgive me, I come from a time where many still live in fear of other species. Humans have many misconceptions of non-human life, particularly the Reptuuls, as humanity has had the most troubled relations with them. Where I’m from, many think they are evil monsters that like to eat humans. I’ve even heard some say they are abominations before God, and that they must be destroyed for the sake of the universe. Which is absolutely ridiculous, considering how few people even believe in God these days. People can be infuriatingly stupid sometimes!
Blast it, there I go again. I really need to learn when to shut my mouth.
My personal beliefs aside, I come to you today to share with you the truth of the Reptuuls, and the war they created, and the people that ended it. It is my hope that you understand there is nothing to fear. It doesn’t matter how many arms, legs, or eyes we have, or if our skin is made of flesh or scales. We all share the same Creator, and we can all live in harmony together if we try. Many have tried – and failed – to silence me, because my message hurts their own agendas, but they will not stop my mission. God has called me to change the hearts of all beings in the universe, and I will follow His calling until my task is complete. Even if I only change one man’s heart, I will consider that a success.
Now, you have likely never heard of the Reptuuls where you’re from. If so, then let me tell you just who they are, for understanding them is key to understanding the truth of the war.
The only problem is, where do I start? So much has already been said about Reptuuls by other people, that it makes my starting point unclear. There is so much I can say, and only barely even scratch the surface of them…I know! I’ll paraphrase from a book we have called A Layman’s Guide to Reptuuls, with a little of my commentary thrown in. Yes, that seems the most logical, let’s do that!
Standing twice as tall as the average human, and ten times as strong, the Tuulrakars, or the Reptuuls, as they are more commonly known, are some of the universe’s mightiest warriors. With razor sharp claws and teeth, scaly skin as tough as steel and tails as powerful as battering rams, these proud reptilian creatures are a sight to behold. Hailing from the dangerous planet of Tuul-Rakalosh, they wage war everywhere they go, hoping to one day achieve their lifelong dream: to conquer the entire universe, and to rule it for all eternity.
Reptuuls are as tough as they come. Their planet is home to some of the deadliest predators and most unpredictable climates in the universe, where only the toughest can survive. And survive they have. Reptuuls are hardy creatures who were built to face the dangers of their planet head on and win. They are driven by the glory of overcoming impossible odds, and the thrill of certain death that comes from it. They never back down from a threat, great or small, or else they would dishonor themselves. If you knew how dangerous Tuul-Rakalosh is, maybe you would understand why Reptuuls are so tough.
However, Reptuuls are not just battle hungry warriors. They are actually very intelligent, skilled hunters and strategists. You have to be if you want to survive their home planet. Not only that, they are some of the most spiritual creatures in the universe. They serve entities they call the Velas, which is what we would call angels or demons. But they don’t just believe in these beings for their enlightenment. Reptuuls can bond with the Velas, granting them with all kinds of powers. With the Velas, they can manipulate the elements to their will; they can control minds; they can see into the future; they can do so many incredible things that it would be impossible for me to list them all in this book. Some people mistakenly believe Reptuuls are sorcerers, but that is not even remotely accurate. Reptuuls are able to tap into the spiritual realm that surrounds us all. This is the secret of their strength, and one of the reasons why they were able to defeat humanity. The Velas are far stronger than any weapon or technology known to man, and when combined with their own weapons, mankind was no match for them.
Reptuuls are a proud, long living people that have ruled over hundreds of planets through the Valkaruun for many millennia – oh, excuse me, that’s the name of their empire. I tend to slip in words from the Reptuulian language in my sentences without noticing. They can live up to three hundred years of age – though some have been rumored to live up to four or five hundred years, though proof of that is up for debate – and they use this time to strengthen themselves and their nation. Reptuuls resembles giant lizards, but they have built a mighty civilization that demands the utmost respect from everyone, and they will not let insults to their vast empire go unpunished. Here’s one of the best pieces of advice for you: do not, under any circumstances, call a Reptuul ‘lizard’. It is highly offensive to them, and they will torture you horribly before killing you if you utter that word in front of them. Only call them Reptuul, or ‘Tuulrakar’, if you prefer their real name. If you value your life, respect a Reptuul. Never underestimate their strength, and never, ever call them lizards.
Reptuuls are strong and cunning, but they are not heartless creatures. That is plainly false. They may value strength and combat above most things, but the Velas has given them a keen eye for beauty, and life long enough to appreciate it. Just take one visit to their capital Ka-Tharl, see their cultivated swamps, their lakeside villages, and the great mountainside castle known as the Drasharak Kobaloth, to see what I mean. They are also quite playful, too. Rowdy and violent, but playful. They love games of brutal combat that are not for the faint of heart, but are exhilarating to behold. You’d be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t been impressed by their culture in some way.
Despite their artistic talents, people still consider them emotionless and uncaring. True, they are a mostly cold-blooded species, and they don’t value emotions like we do, unless it’s anger. They’re the way they are because life on Tuul-Rakalosh made them that way. You have to be the strongest Reptuul to survive on their planet, and they won’t change their mindset for anyone. But that still doesn’t mean they are emotionless. They do have a caring side. It just takes a lot to make them show it.
While some would call them ferocious, especially to outsiders, I would call them passionate. They are incredibly driven beings that strive to fulfill their dreams, whether they are personal or more widespread, and when they make a goal, they will never rest until they achieve it. Even those who fear the Reptuuls have to admire their spirit. The Reptuuls are fearless and determined warriors, and they never give up in the face of adversity.
And that is who the Reptuuls are. Impressive, wouldn’t you say?
It’s strange. The Valkaruun is so big and so powerful, yet most people know very little about Reptuuls. And why is that? Humanity has wondered about their role in the universe for so long, and have studied them for years, but have never been able to truly figure them out. Maybe it’s because Reptuuls tend to isolate themselves from outside worlds, and don’t like others meddling with their culture.
Or maybe it’s because humans have suffered greatly at the hands of Reptuuls.
Unfortunately, despite my fascination with them, even I can’t deny the Reptuuls faults. They are, by nature, violent, aggressive, and arrogant creatures. They are short tempered, and proud of it, too. Any slight offense will set them off on a rampage, and they often intentionally cause fights just for fun. It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of an angered Reptuul.
Because of their powers, Reptuuls believe they are superior to all other species, and that they are the rightful rulers of the universe. They have taken over countless planets, destroyed thousands of civilizations, and slaughtered millions of people in order to achieve their goal. They thirst for war and destruction, and will never stop until they have conquered the entire universe, and all species are placed firmly under their feet. War is like a game to them, and they play to win. They don’t care who they kill in order to fulfill their ambitions. All life is inferior to them, and any who rebel against them are met with swift retribution, either through enslavement or annihilation.
And humans are at the forefront of their hatred.
Though Reptuuls dislike most species, they have a particular hatred of mankind. They frequently attack human planets to steal their lands and to make slaves. They do this both to display their power, and also just for the fun of it. They love to make sport of human pain, but most of them don’t even know why they hate humans. Hatred of man is so ingrained into Reptuulian culture at a young age that they don’t even question it anymore. Some say it’s out of arrogance, while others believe it’s to right past injustices. Whatever their reasons, Reptuuls hate humans with incredible passion, and love making them suffer.
Humans have tried to make peace with them, but the Reptuuls reject it every time, because they would never lower themselves to ally with humans. Humans tried for a long time to gain their trust, but eventually, they gave up on them, realizing it wasn’t worth the risk. Even if they could reason with them, the two species have a hard time understanding each other, especially due to the differences in mindsets. Humans always have to tread carefully around them, as one slip could send them over the edge.
Not that humans are completely innocent, though. Humans have often instigated conflicts with the Reptuuls, not just because of the frequent attacks and mistreatment as slaves, but also out of a desire for power over their enemies. This has led to many destructive wars against their oppressors, most of which have ended in disaster, and their actions have made them hated by the universe at large. And worse, humans also teach their own to hate other species, which has only made the conflicts between humanity and Reptuuls worse. They do this out of fear, and while I don’t blame them, humans have a bad habit of making situations worse than if they did nothing at all.
So humans and Reptuuls hate each other, and relations between the two has only gotten worse over time. Their rivalries started ever since they first encountered each other in the mid twenty-first century, and has continued for thousands of years.
It’s sad, really. Humans and Reptuuls could benefit so much from each other, but instead, they choose to remain enemies, never considering peace as an option. Whenever one side tries to progress, the other is there to stop them. Humans have suffered so much from the Reptuuls that they no longer have a planet to call home, as their old planet, a mythical place called Earth, was rendered uninhabitable from war. This was the era of the Kuro-Sil, the ‘Lost Universe’. Humans have lost their home, gave up faith in their God, and lost their place in the universe, all thanks to the Reptuuls. All humans fear Reptuuls, and would prefer if they didn’t exist.
All of them…except one.
